The WVFC PL Offseason Program Squad Nov 7th-Nov 8th
The Off Season program had a packed weekend of games and action over Nov 7th and 8th. The boys first took off to Wagga on Sat morning to take on 2 Wagga rep sides. The first match vs Wagga 18s took place on Sat afternoon at Gissing Oval with Woden recording a 4-2 victory under hot conditions. The evening was spent in Wagga with dinner in town before turning in at the Charles Sturt Motor Inn. A 10:30 am kick off against the open Wagga rep side saw Valley again take the spoils, again by 4 goals to 2, on an even hotter day before back on the bus to Canberra.....but wait there's more. A couple of hours after arriving back most of the lads were back at Hawker Oval to take on Belconnen Utd in the T20s league. No worries though as the game was won 4- 1 to make it 3 from 3 for the weekend. What an effort from all involved!
Earlier.....
The WVFC PL Offseason Program Squad have played a couple of important games recently. The first was down in Wollongong a couple of weekends ago against a Shellharbour Youth Team. After a convincing first half which reaped no less than 5 goals without reply, the second could only be blamed on bus-lag allowing Shellharbour to score twice. A satisfactory 5-2 win to WVFC in their first of 5 interstate trips. The second was against the Central Coast Mariners Youth Team last Tue in Gosford. Whilst the Woden lads went down 4-0, they played well and demonstrated that they could hold their own for large chunks of the game. Three of CCM's goals were scored in a 10 minute period early in the game. Thereafter Woden Valley settled and only conceded one more goal in 70 minutes of exciting football. The CCM squad travels to Canberra later this week for their next A-League Youth fixture vs the AIS. The Woden Valley squad has three more games against representative sides in Wagga in November and against the NSWIS in Sydney in December.
This WVFC group of players had the fortunate pleasure of having a special guest coach take them for a training session last week. Alfred Galustian is the co-founder and International Director of Coerver Coaching. He is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading technical coaches and has worked as a Technical Coaches’ instructor at the French, Brazilian, English, Japanese, Australian and Chinese football federations and with top clubs including Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Newcastle United and Arsenal. Alfred is currently a technical coaching advisor to the English, French, Australian and Japanese federations.
The WVFC U/20's side started their off-season campaign with a convincing 3-1 win against TUFC and a win against BUFC 4-3 (after being 0-3 down at half-time), both at Hawker Football Centre over the past few weekends. Woden currently top the Summer Competition and have a tough test against Canberra FC this weekend, kick-off 7.30pm at Hawker.
Last night WVFC officially welcomed new PL Head Coach Pat McCann to the club. The function was held at the Mawson Clubhouse, attendees included representives from the Junior, Premier Womens, State League and Premier Mens arms of the club. Pat will soon meet with the other PL coaches Paul Jetkovic (PPL), Michael Azize (16s) and myself (18s) to plan next years Pre-Season Program and grading process.
Finally, the informal/optional kickabout sessions for U/16's and U/18's Youth Players have continued over the past 3 weeks, held on Tue nights, 6-7:30pm at Mawson. Numbers have been growing with approximately 35 players in attendance so far. Next weeks session will be held on Wed 4th November, 6-7:30pm at Mawson (NOT Tue night, due to Melbourne Cup Public Holiday).
